Cato’s numbers show immigration reform needed

The Cato Institute’s thorough examination of American immigration laws is concerning: Less than 1% of prospective immigrants, both men and women, who attempt to start the legal immigration procedure to the United States, are successful in finishing it and moving there.


According to David J. Bier of Cato, “the myth that legal immigration is relatively simple or a matter of simply waiting a few years persists.” Legal immigration reforms are thus put on hold as attention is mainly directed at how to address the restriction’s symptom—illegal border crossings—rather than the restriction itself.
